SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- May 9, 2002 -- Three Rings today announced the July beta launch of Yohoho! Puzzle PiratesTM, the persistent online world of Puzzling Piracy. Puzzle Pirates set sail in an Ocean world where swashbuckling deeds of heroism and villainy are accomplished by skillful play of fun action puzzle games. Yohoho! can considered as the collision of Ultima OnlineTM, Sid Meier's Pirates!TM and Tetris®.
Prospective Pirates can discover more about the game and sign up for this summer's beta test at the web site www.puzzlepirates.com. The game will launch in Q4 2002 as a subscription service for a modest monthly fee.
Yohoho! players download the client software and their Pirate quickly comes to life, joining a crew of fellow Buccaneers and exploring the thirty-seven seas, gathering booty as they go. Sailing, swordfighting, and even friendly bouts of drinking are resolved with short, fun puzzle games.
As Three Rings' Designer and CEO, Daniel James, puts it, "Puzzle Pirates will bring folks who enjoy classic online puzzle and card games into a more satisfying ongoing world of Piratical play. We're making sure that the game is both very playable for new Pirates, and incredibly deep for our Dread Pirates." Daniel adds, "You can drop in anytime and play for twenty minutes, yet build a Pirate dynasty to last for years. Arrr!"
Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates is being developed in Java, and will launch with support for Windows and GNU/Linux. Mac OS X and other Java-compatible platforms will follow. Yohoho!'s expected audience is online puzzle game enthusiasts, who are mostly adults and in the majority women, along with fans of persistent world role-playing games.
